I should know better than to post quizzes and other audience-participation posts, because no one ever answers.

Still, one never knows when something will catch on … so here goes with a timely quiz challenge.

Anyone wanna guess what the following songs have in common? (There is more than one answer; let’s see if anyone comes close to the one I have in mind.)

Edit: My man Wisconsin JB has correctly answered in the Comments section … but you can still give it a try if you don’t look there first.

“Boogie Oogie Oogie,” A Taste of Honey

“My Sharona,” the Knack

“Upside Down,” Diana Ross

“Endless Love,” Lionel Richie and Diana Ross

“Hard To Say I’m Sorry,” Chicago

“Maniac,” Michael Sembello

“What’s Love Got To Do With It?,” Tina Turner

“St. Elmo’s Fire (Man in Motion),” John Parr

“Venus,” Bananarama

“La Bamba,” Los Lobos

“Sweet Child O’ Mine,” Guns n’ Roses

“Hangin’ Tough,” New Kids on the Block

“Blaze of Glory,” Jon Bon Jovi

  1. #1 singles at back to school, 1978 to sometime circa 1990 (not doing math after the dinner hour), I believe. Some good tunes, and some not.

    • You are the man (although our Twitter conversation of earlier today did sorta offer you a hint.)

From September 1978 (kindergarten) through September 1990 (twelfth grade), these were the Number One singles for the weeks in which I went back to school.

“Upside Down” and “La Bamba” are about the only two I would want to hear now. Maybe “What’s Love …?”
